Learning a language should always include interaction. Speaking is an interactive process. When we speak, we share, we connect.
There are 4 known elements that contribute to speaking – one of our most important skills:
- Vocabulary
- Grammar
- Pronunciation
- Fluency.
Speaking skills can be separated into formal and informal practices. Throughout life, we may use both ways of communicating – in a variety of contexts.
However, we’ve calculated that if you choose the traditional path to learning these skills – where you study with grammar books, and learn English rules by heart – it may take you up to 10 years.
Informal speaking skills are important – and can often be underrated when teaching. Informal speaking is relevant, personable, and helps us to form emotional connections. It can also provide a broader understanding of people and culture.
The more fluent you are in English, the more interesting, exciting and insightful conversations can be. Yet, we understand how easy it is to find speaking daunting and challenging.
It’s why we exist… At Nattives we teach through active communication where vocabulary is learned within a context. Nattives students retain words and expressions fast because they are emotionally connected to the topics and teachers they speak with.
